Map of the Bremen Area

This is a map of the area surrounding the City of Bremen. I have labeled the towns found in the research on the Bredbeck name. Distances may not be exact... Please email me if you think I've left anything out.

In the course of building this map, I have discovered:

The state of Niedersachsen in Germany (see the big map to see the whole state) was formed in 1946 by merging several other states. Niedersachsen means Lower Saxony and encompasses the area that used to be the Kingdom of Hanover.

Bremen is also a state. It consists of the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven (which means Bremen's Port).

Osterholz is a district within the state of Niedersachsen. There are many districts in the state.

Bredbeck is a "local part" within the locality of Freissenbüttel within the City of Osterholz-Scharmbeck. It is on the Muhlenbach (a stream or river). There is a really great map on the German wikipedia site, listed below.

Citymap - This website provides a detailed city map of Osterholz-Scharmbeck and clearly shows Bredbeck (zoom out 3 times and then hit north once). The main website ( provides maps and travel information for the whole country of Germany in German. - This map is a little difficult to read, but it was where I originally found Bredbeck while working on the map. It seems to the only map that finds Bredbeck in a search.
Stadplandienst - a German language online atlas. Great views of Meyenburg, Lesum, and Osterholz, but you can't find the smaller places using the search feature.
Wikipedia - This is a great website in English and in German. The English site's map shows Osterholz as part of the entrie region.
Wikipedia - This is the German Wikipedia site. It too is contributed to by multiple authors. It explains Bredbeck's position in the City of Osterholz-Scharmbeck.
